Elon Musk’s satellite internet company, Starlink, has launched a more affordable kit and reduced monthly subscription plan in Kenya, aiming to attract cost-conscious customers. The new offering comes after Safaricom, the country’s largest ISP, upgraded its fibre internet speeds, intensifying competition in the Kenyan internet market.
In August, Starlink introduced a rental option for its hardware, allowing users to pay $15 per month for the kit. In addition, the company now offers a $30.87 monthly residential plan for customers, positioning itself as an affordable alternative to other ISPs.
The newly released Starlink Mini is priced at $208.38 and offers internet speeds of up to 100mbps, providing a reliable option for those in areas with limited internet access. Starlink’s aggressive pricing strategy aims to make satellite internet more accessible in Kenya, a key market for its African expansion.
This move by Starlink is seen as a direct response to Safaricom’s recent upgrades to its fibre internet services, making it one of the leading competitors in Kenya’s growing internet landscape.
