IBERIA BECOMES LAUNCH OPERATOR OF AIRBUS A321XLR

The newly delivered A321XLR to Iberia seats 182 passengers in a two-class layout with lie-flat business class seats with direct aisle access. Spanish flag carrier Iberia has received its inaugural A321XLR, marking its status as the first airline to operate the latest single-aisle aircraft in the world.

Marco Sansavini, CEO and Chairman of Iberia, expressed pride in being the launch airline for this innovative Airbus model. He stated, “The A321XLR will enable us to explore new destinations, facilitating transoceanic routes with enhanced efficiency.”

Christian Scherer, CEO of Commercial Aircraft at Airbus, remarked, “After five years of development, the newest addition to the Airbus family is ready to commence operations with Iberia. The A321XLR will facilitate numerous new non-stop routes, marking a significant advancement in air connectivity. This achievement represents another milestone for Airbus in our ongoing commitment to innovation and delivering value to our clients. We are delighted to celebrate this moment with a valued partner: gracias y felicidades Iberia.”

The recently acquired A321XLR for Iberia accommodates 182 passengers in a two-class configuration, featuring lie-flat business class seats that offer direct aisle access. Equipped with the innovative Airspace cabin, this aircraft ensures long-haul comfort across all classes. The XL overhead bins enhance luggage capacity by 60%, facilitating a more efficient boarding process for both passengers and cabin crew. Furthermore, every seat is equipped with in-seat connectivity, and the advanced lighting system significantly improves the overall passenger experience.

The A321XLR represents the next advancement from the A320neo, addressing market demands for increased range and payload, thereby enhancing value for airlines. It boasts an exceptional Xtra Long Range of up to 4,700 nautical miles, which is 15% greater than the A321LR, while achieving a 30% reduction in fuel consumption per seat compared to earlier generation competitor aircraft, along with lower NOx emissions and noise levels. To date, Airbus has received over 500 orders for this aircraft.

The inaugural flight of the first A321XLR took place in June 2022, followed by a comprehensive testing program involving three test aircraft. Consistent with all Airbus models, the A321XLR is already capable of operating with up to 50% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

Airbus aims to achieve 100% SAF capability for its aircraft by 2030.
