QATAR AIRWAYS EXPANDS AFRICA NETWORK WITH FOUR WEEKLY FLIGHTS TO ENTEBBE, UGANDA

Qatar Airways has announced the expansion of its Africa network with four additional weekly flights to Entebbe, Uganda. This strategic move aims to meet the rising demand during the summer season and enhance connectivity for passengers traveling from East Africa.

Increased Connectivity

Qatar Airways currently operates a daily service between Doha Hamad International Airport (DOH) and Entebbe International Airport (EBB) using the Airbus A330-200. Starting August 1, 2024, and running through September 30, 2024, the airline will increase its service to 11 weekly flights. The additional flights from Doha will operate on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, with return flights from Entebbe on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

This expansion aims to improve connectivity for passengers traveling from Uganda to other destinations on the Qatar Airways network, including the USA, Asia, Europe, and North Africa. “The increased frequency now guarantees improved connectivity for passengers traveling from Uganda to the USA, Asia, Europe, and North Africa. It also supports the growth of trade and tourism between Uganda and Qatar while offering convenience for point-to-point passengers to save a day’s travel due to the early arrival in Doha,” said Hendrik du Preez, Qatar Airways Vice President for Africa.

Strengthening Presence in Africa

Since 2020, Qatar Airways has been actively expanding its presence in Africa, adding several new destinations to its network. These include Abidjan, Abuja, Accra, Harare, Kano, Luanda, Lusaka, and Port Harcourt. With the addition of Entebbe, the airline now offers 180 weekly flights from Doha to 29 African destinations. Through codeshare agreements, Qatar Airways provides over 900 weekly flights across the continent and has 30 interline agreements with African airlines, including five codeshare partnerships.

Moreover, Qatar Airways has demonstrated its long-term commitment to improving air travel and aviation infrastructure in Africa with a strategic investment in Kigali’s new $1.3 billion airport.

This expansion of services to Entebbe is part of Qatar Airways’ broader strategy to enhance its network and meet the growing demand for air travel to and from Africa. By increasing the frequency of flights and forging new partnerships, the airline is set to play a significant role in boosting trade, tourism, and connectivity across the continent.
