The Islands Development Company (IDC), based in Seychelles, has officially commenced scheduled operations with its newly acquired Tecnam P2012 STOL aircraft, just one month after delivery. This marks a significant milestone for the IDC as it strengthens inter-island connectivity within the archipelago.
The aircraft, which underwent rigorous acceptance checks and crew training in Italy, was delivered to Seychelles following a challenging ferry flight across Africa. The P2012 STOL’s exceptional short take-off and landing capabilities make it an ideal choice for operations between Seychelles International Airport and the smaller, more remote airfields scattered across the islands.
With a take-off run of just 315 meters and a landing run of 225 meters, combined with a certified 10° steep approach, the P2012 STOL offers unparalleled performance on the region’s shortest runways. The twin-engine design ensures both safety and comfort, meeting the demands of IDC’s inter-island services.
Designed with commuter passengers in mind, the P2012 STOL features modern amenities that promise a comfortable flight experience. The aircraft can accommodate up to nine passengers, offering premium interiors, in-seat power, superior legroom, and convenient under-seat storage.
Giovanni Pascale Langer, Tecnam’s Managing Director, expressed his enthusiasm for the P2012’s expanding presence globally. “From Alaska to Hawaii, from the Caribbean to the Seychelles, the P2012 is proving to be the aircraft of choice for many operators due to its modern design and low operating costs,” Langer stated.
Glenny Savy, CEO of IDC, highlighted the strategic value of the new addition to their fleet. “The Tecnam P2012 STOL is a strategic addition to IDC’s fleet. This versatile aircraft will enhance operations on all the islands managed by IDC, especially those with shorter airfields, improving accessibility and operational efficiency,” Savy remarked.
The Tecnam P2012 STOL is poised to play a pivotal role in enhancing the quality and reliability of air travel within the Seychelles, further supporting IDC’s mission of sustainable development across the archipelago.
