Avolon and Cebu Pacific (‘CEB’) have joined forces in a remarkable initiative to revamp a community centre in a rural village on Cebu in the Philippines. The centre, managed by the local charity City Gates Academy, serves as a lifeline for underprivileged children, many of whom are orphans or come from families grappling with addiction.
More than 50 staff members from Avolon and CEB enthusiastically participated in the project, which involved constructing a new kitchen, dining area, and outdoor play zone for the centre. Additionally, the team worked on upgrading indoor facilities, establishing a vegetable garden, and providing financial assistance to cover the centre’s operating expenses for the next year.
This collaboration signifies a significant milestone for both organisations, with CEB becoming Avolon’s inaugural airline partner in a community development programme. Both companies are harnessing their robust partnership to transcend their routine commercial activities, focusing on their shared commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) and community engagement.
Situated in the village of Lang Lang, Cebu, in the rural heart of the island from which the airline derives its name, the centre epitomises Avolon and CEB’s dedication to CSR strategies centred around robust community engagement. While Avolon’s ‘Care Days’ are an annual company-wide initiative, this marks the first time it has collaborated with one of its key customers in their operational country.
CEB’s Chief Executive Officer, Mike Szücs, along with the airline’s senior management team and other staff members, graced the event. They were joined by Avolon’s Chief Operating Officer, Felipe Campos, alongside representatives from Avolon’s Singapore, Hong Kong, and Dubai offices.
Felipe Campos, Avolon’s Chief Operating Officer, expressed, “Supporting communities is a core element of our CSR strategy, and as a global business, it was exciting for us to partner with a key customer whose values and social goals are aligned with our own.”
Felix Lopez, CEB’s Chief Human Resources Officer, echoed similar sentiments, stating, “Cebu Pacific has always believed in giving back to the communities we serve. We are grateful for partners like Avolon who share our passion for making a meaningful impact and actively promote volunteerism among their employees.”
Avolon and CEB have fostered a partnership since 2012. Avolon, headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, is a leading global aviation finance company, while CEB stands as the leading carrier in the Philippines.
