In a significant move to enhance the safety and efficiency of its fleet, United Airlines has selected Honeywell (NASDAQ: HON) to provide a comprehensive suite of advanced avionics for its new 737 MAX aircraft. This selection underscores the continued collaboration between the two companies and reinforces Honeywell’s reputation for delivering cutting-edge aerospace technology.
United Airlines will integrate a range of Honeywell technologies, including the industry’s only 3D weather radar, new 25-hour flight data recorders, and advanced traffic avoidance systems, into its 737 MAX aircraft over the next decade. This partnership builds on a similar agreement made in 2018, which equipped 161 of United’s 737 MAX aircraft with Honeywell avionics.
“We are proud to continue our long-standing relationship with United Airlines to provide advanced avionics for its growing 737 MAX fleet,” said Heath Patrick, President, Americas Aftermarket, Honeywell Aerospace Technologies. “Our technology reduces pilot workload, improves situational awareness, and supports dispatch reliability.”
Key Technologies Selected by United Airlines
- IntuVue RDR-4000 3D Weather Radar System: This state-of-the-art radar is the first automatic commercial radar capable of accurately depicting weather in an airplane’s flight path. It scans the sky at 17 tilt angles, offering a 3D view of weather conditions through an intuitive display, significantly enhancing pilot situational awareness and decision-making.
- Honeywell Connected Recorder – 25: Designed for commercial air transport, this flight data recorder captures 25 hours of flight and cockpit voice data. It supports better maintenance predictability and operational insights through data analytics, potentially improving overall aircraft performance and safety.
- TPA100B Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System and TRA 100B Transponders**: These systems identify surrounding aircraft and alert pilots to potential collision threats, significantly enhancing air traffic safety.
- Integrated Multi-Mode Receiver: Combining satellite- and ground-based navigation systems, this receiver helps pinpoint precise airplane locations, facilitating efficient landings, especially during challenging approaches to new runways.
- ALA-52B Radar Altimeter: This technology assists with instrument landings at numerous U.S. airports and effectively filters out 5G broadband interference, ensuring reliable altitude readings.
